Kamilaroi's $17,000 Top

The Land's coverage of 2014 Dubbo National Show and Sale, in which Outback Shorthorns in partnership with Malton Shorthorns purcahsed Kamilaroi Meat Packer the $17,000 Top Priced Bull.

TAMWORTH'S Kamilaroi Short-horn stud got their birthday wish at last week's Dectomax Shorthorn National Show and Sale, selling the top-priced bull.

The Kamilaroi stud was established by Calrossy Anglican School 10 years ago and has been supporting the national for the past nine, this year selling five bulls to average $9600.

Kamilaroi Meat Packer (AI), which was judged division four champion the previous day, sold for the sale's top price of $17,000.

Meat Packer was purchased by Greg Schuller and son Dallas, Outback Shorthorns, Culcairn, in partnership with Peter Falls, Malton stud, Finley.

Described as a "very sound package", Dallas Schuller said he admired the maturity pattern, carcase and softness of the bull.

Mr Falls said the champion would be joined to females in the Malton stud's white bull breeding program.

"We breed white bulls for the Ensay sale in Victoria because white bulls suit breeders in the Gippsland mountain country over that way," he said.

Calrossy Primary Industries teacher Geoff Nielsen said Meat Packer was sired by Nagol Park Emzone, leant to the stud by Lester Job, Moombi stud, Cumnock, and out of a former donor cow purchased from Gerald Spry, Sprys stud, Wagga Wagga.

"It's the first time all bulls in the Kamilaroi team are Kamilaroi-stud bred at Calrossy," he said.

Kamilaroi Meat Packer weighed in at 1060 kilograms and had Breedplan traits that put it in the top 15pc for carcase weight and top 5pc for milk.

The 25-month-old roan bull measured 142 square-centimetres for its eye muscle area (EMA), 43cm scrotal circumference and 21 and 14 millimetres for its rump and rib fat respectively.

This year's National Shorthorn Sale may not have reached the $30,000 high recorded at the 2013 event but it did record a higher clearance rate with 81 bulls sold from 91 offered.

The average price also increased to $5383, up by $56.

Seven sires made five-figure prices while 62 per cent of the offering were more affordable, selling for $5000 or less.

In the breakdown, 51 junior bulls were offered with 48 selling to a top of $12,500.

In the senior divisions, 33 from 39 bulls sold to top at $17,000.

Ronelle Park Hurricane H242, offered by Ross and Janelle Johnstone, Ronelle Park, Lyndhurst, secured the second highest price of the sale at $12,500, paid by the Thompson family, Bayview stud, Yorketown, South Australia.

Ronelle Park sold four bulls from five offered to average $6250.

Not far behind was Futurity Hunk H140 which sold at $12,000 for vendors Jason and Kylie Catts, Futurity stud, Baradine.

The August 2012-drop bull, by Yamburgan Ossie D96 lines and out of Futurity Masters Enia E3, sold to John and Anne Gould, P.R. Gould and Company, "Cortina", Lucindale, SA.

Futurity secured the highest average of the sale at $10,500, selling Hunk H140 and Futurity Hulk H125 for $9000 to the Gould family.

While the Thompson family, Bayview stud, purchased the second-highest priced bull, they also made some high prices with their own offerings, selling all four bulls offered to average $5625.

The top-priced Bayview bull sold at $10,500 for Bayview Tradition H64, also to the Gould family.

Spry's On Target H189, offered by Claudia Nielsen, TC Diamond, Tamworth, in partnership with Gerald Spry, Spry's stud, Wagga Wagga, sold for $10,000 to Jake Taylor, Comet stud, Beaufort, Vic, who also negotiated New Zealand marketing rights with David and Pip Blackwood, Hinewaka stud, Masterton, NZ.

Moombi Ooktali H64, offered by Lester and Sonya Job, Moombi, Cumnock, sold for the same price to the Hall family, "Coolabah", Cunnin-yeuli via Swan Hill.

John Gould, a repeat buyer to the sale, took home four bulls to top at $12,000 and average $9125, to join to his 1100 Shorthorn females.

The Sheridan family, Mia Mia Trading, "Mia Mia", Coonabarabran took home three Marrington sires bulls to top at $6000 and average $5000.

Matthew Passmore, Forbes purchased three sires last year and returned to take home another three for an average of $4333 while Merriwee Pastoral Company, "Merriwee", Condobolin secured four bulls for a $4375 average.
